Waiting over one year for surgery

Imagine if the Medicare monopoly offered a care guarantee.

In a December 14, 2015, letter to the editor [Edmonton Journal] Jean Sult of Edmonton wrote: “For a total knee replacement: general practitioner to consultation with surgeon, 29 weeks; estimated wait time for surgery, a further 32-40 weeks. That makes 61-69 weeks from GP to treatment. Wait time for MRI: 24 weeks ….”

Imagine if Jean Sult had a choice.

Canada’s government-run health care system – Medicare -- is a monopoly that prohibits private hospital and private physician care. Medicare is a subpar performer, ranking 10th among 11 advanced countries. Canadians deserve much better! Patients deserve timely access to quality care and choice of hospitals and physicians. Taxpayers deserve much more value for their tax dollars.
