Saskatchewan supports private, for-profit blood donor clinics

In the unions’ strategy to demonize the private sector’s involvement in health care, the Canadian Union of Public Employees [CUPE] says that private, for-profit blood donor clinics should be banned in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan Health Minister Dustin Duncan, however, doesn’t have a problem with a clinic setting up in the province. He notes that 80% of plasma used in Canada currently comes from paid donors in the United States and Europe.

Canada’s government-run health care system – Medicare -- is a monopoly that prohibits private hospital and private physician care. Medicare is a subpar performer, ranking 10th among 11 advanced countries. Canadians deserve much better! Patients deserve timely access to quality care and choice of hospitals and physicians. Taxpayers deserve much more value for their tax dollars.
