Former federal health minister & former CMA president to debate rights of patients

“Our broken health care system is infringing on the rights of Canadians”: Agree or Disagree?

Ujjal Dosanjh and Dr. Brian Day will debate Canadian health care as part of another Great Canadian Debate, taking place May 2 at 5 pm MDT [Alberta/Saskatchewan time] at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

The debate will be live-streamed on the CPAC website during the event, with a video placed on the Macdonald-Laurier Institute’s website after it takes place.

Dr. Brian Day, an orthopedic surgeon and former president of the Canadian Medical Association, will argue in favour of the resolution. Ujjal Dosanjh, a former British Columbia NDP premier and former Liberal federal minister of health will argue against.

Canada’s government-run health care system – Medicare -- is a monopoly that prohibits private hospital and private physician care. Medicare is a subpar performer, ranking 10th among 11 advanced countries. Canadians deserve much better! Patients deserve timely access to quality care and choice of hospitals and physicians. Taxpayers deserve much more value for their tax dollars.
